PRAMOD MAHAJAN ANNOUNCES SETTING UP OF ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE IN INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY IN MONGOLIA
New Delhi ~ 10 September 2001

Mr. Mahajan today announced the setting up of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Centre for excellence in Information and communication Technology in Mongolia. This Centre will be set up in the Information and Communication Technology Institute at Ulaanbaatar. Mr. Pramod Mahajan who is on a visit to Mongolia announced at Ulaanbaatar that a grant of US $ 1 million would be given to make this an internationally recognized top grade institute. The Government of India Ministry of Information and technology would also provide all expertise to set up this Institute.

The work of setting up this Centre would be completed within 12 months. The Mongolian Government has agreed to give land building and some infrastructure so as to enable the Government of India to set up this Centre in Mongolia. Mongolia is a Buddhist country wherein 95 per cent of the population are Buddhist. They have great appreciation for India and its achievements in the field of Information Technology.
