INCLUSION OF GADDIS AND GUJJARS CASTES IN STs LISTNovember 28, 2001Gaddis and Gujjars communities have been notified as Scheduled Tribes in relation to the areas which formed Himachal Pradesh prior to November 1966 and in relation to areas merged in Himachal Pradesh on account of re-organisation of Punjab in year 1966 these communities are treated as Other Backward Class (OBC). The Government of Himachal Pradesh has recommended that these communities may be declared as STs through out the state. The proposal of Government of Himachal Pradesh has been processed in accordance with modalities approved for deciding such claims. This information was given by the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram in a written reply to a question from Shri Suresh Chandel in the Lok Sabha today. |
