HIGH-LEVEL HOME MINISTRY TEAM VISITING MANIPUR



New Delhi ~ July 5, 2001


A high-level Home Ministry Team headed by the Minister of State Shri I.D. Swami is visiting Manipur today to discuss with various organisations like AMSU, AMUCO, MEIRAPHAIBIS (women organisation) and others to know their views on issues arising out of the extension of Cease-fire between the Government of India and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (I/M). The team left New Delhi this morning for Imphal and report back to the Home Minister by Saturday. This will be a prelude to the meeting convened by the Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the issue on July 8 2001.

The decision to send the team was taken at a high level meeting chaired by the Union Home Minister Shri L.K. Advani to review the issues arising out of the Cease-fire extension with the NSCN(I/M). Senior officials of the Ministry including the Home Secretary Shri Kamal Pande and Government of India's representative for the Naga Peace talks Shri Padmanabhaiah attended the meeting.
