MANOHAR JOSHI STRESSES FOR INCREASED BILATERAL COOPERATION BETWEEN INDIA AND CANADA



New Delhi ~ June 28 2001


Shri Manohar Joshi Minister for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises has stressed for increased bilateral cooperation between India and Canada especially in software telecommunications and environmental products and services.

Shri Joshi while speaking at a reception organized by Indo Canadian Association in Ottawa on 24th June 2001 spoke about the new economic policies and liberalization of Indian economy and stated that due to an ambitious development programme diversified investment opportunities are now available in India for manufacturing of quality consumer and industrial products.

Speaking about the facilities for business expansion in India Shri Joshi said that many of the big American and European companies have made India as their gateway for software development as the costs of operations in India are low as compared to US. The Canadian companies

Shri Joshi said would find it very profitable to establish business enterprises in India. Shri Joshi also called for establishing linkages between the Chambers of Commerce in Canada and their counterparts in India. He highlighted the emerging opportunities in banking and insurance sectors where Indian Government has allowed wide foreign participation.

The Union Heavy Industry Minister has called for exploiting the tourism potential which exists in both the countries besides exploring cooperation in the films export. Shri Joshi expressed confidence that the starting of direct Air flights between India and Canada the travelling time would be cut substantially making it for easier to commute between the two countries resulting in travelling in lesser time.
