INDIA AND RUSSIA IDENTIFY 146 R&D PROJECTS FOR JOINT COLLABORATION

New Delhi ~ July 27, 2001

India and Russia have identified 146 joint research and development projects for implementation under the Integrated Long-Term Programme (ILTP) of cooperation in science and technology. The projects were selected at a meeting of the Indo-Russian Joint Council for ILTP in Moscow recently. The projects cover fields like

  • Biotechnology and immunology
  • Materials science
  • Laser
  • Space
  • Hydrology
  • Electronics
  • Oceanology
  • Bio-medical science
  • Engineering science
  • Astrophysics and Chemical sciences.

    Among the 15 States in which these projects are being implemented Delhi leads with 34 projects followed by Maharashtra 24, UP 14, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu 13 each, Jharkhand and Goa 7 each, West Bengal, and Karnataka 6 each Gujarat 3 Rajasthan and Uttaranchal 2 each and Haryana and Himachal Pradesh 1 each. It may be recalled that the two countries concluded an agreement in October last extending the ILTP cooperation till 2010. The accord among other things provided for the establishment of the Indo-Russian joint council for ILTP. It also inter-alia approved conduct of research in Indian and Russian laboratories on jointly identified projects.
