ICAR SCIENTISTS TO PLAY A GREATER ROLE IN CURRENT GLOBALISATION/WTO SCENARIO - AJIT SINGH

Union Agriculture Minister Shri Ajit Singh today urged scientists to play a greater role to counter the challenges faced by the Indian farm sector due to World Trade Organization and globalization. In his first official engagement after being sworn in as Cabinet Minister yesterday Shri Ajit Singh said that scientists of ICAR will have to play a greater role in the current globalization and WTO. Agriculture now requires much greater attention than ever before in order to ensure overall progress of the country he said.
The Minister was addressing a gathering of agriculturists scientists researchers and directors of the ICAR Institutes after inaugurating the new building of "Krishi Anusandhan Bhawan II" of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Stressing the need of implementation of the research at the grassroot level to make agriculture vibrant he said that extension services must be strengthened to ensure that the benefits of the research reach the farmers.
Dr. R.S Paroda, DG ICAR said that the building has been constructed within the time limit at a total cost of Rs. 16.56 crore which includes Rs. 3.6 crore from the AHRD and Rs.1.20 crore from NATP - The World Bank Projects. This building has a common campus with KAB-I and will provide an integrated working campus for the ICAR officers at Pusa. The building is centrally air-conditioned with modern and state-of -the- art facilities
he added. The foundation stone of the building was laid on August 23 1995 by the then Agriculture Minister Dr. Balram Jakhar.
