PHOTO EXHIBITION ON STEAM LOCOMOTIVE INAUGURATED

New Delhi ~ July 16, 2001

The Minister of Tourism & Culture Shri Ananth Kumar today inaugurated a photo exhibition on Steam Locomotives. The unique exhibition displays history and role of steam engines in the Railways. Inaugurating the exhibition Shri Ananth Kumar said that railway has been the vehicle of national integration which provides the opportunity to the people to know each other across the country. Steam engines have been passion of the people since their invention and they are still playing very important role in the promotion of tourism and these are mobile heritage. The Ministry would like to sponsor such exhibition as it is of tourism interest he said. On the occasion a model of oldest working steam locomotives attached to Fairy Queen train was presented to the Minister. The exhibition organised by Indian Steam Railway Society is currently being held at the Annexe of India International Society and will continue upto July 21.
