UMA BHARTI REVIEWS PREPAREDNESS OF SPORTS FEDERATIONS AND SPORTS PERSONS FOR THE AFRO-ASIAN GAMES

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports - Sushree Uma Bharti chaired the Performance Monitoring Committee Meeting of the first Afro-Asian Games
here today. At the meeting the Minister reviewed the preparedness of sports federations and sports persons for the Afro-Asian Games. She discussed the medal prospects the preparation of the athletes problems being faced during training and also the state of the equipment available and required for the Games. The Minister suggested regular interaction of the Federations with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. She also directed that here should be frequent periodical review meetings to discuss the problems and their solutions. According to the estimate the Indian contingent is expected to win 16 medals in six disciplines. Representatives from a number of Sports Federations were present at the meeting along with senior officials of the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and Sports Authority of India Ltd. (SAI).
In athletics medals probabilities were discussed along with the training being imparted to the athletes. Their problem relating to non-availability of foreign coaching was discussed and the Ministry agreed to look into it. As far as the preparation for boxing is concerned the Federation informed that the coaching camp is already in progress but they were facing a problem of non-availability of Doctors. The Minister directed that this problem should be resolved within a week. Hockey, shooting, weightlifting and swimming were the other disciplines discussed. Their problems of non-availability of 3-Dimensional high-speed analyzer camera, computer scoring machines, ball speed checking machine for hockey etc. were discussed and the Ministry promised all possible help and support.
