MEDAL WINNERS AT THE 14TH ASIAN SENIOR WOMEN'S WEIGHTLIFTING CHAMPIONSHIP CALL ON SUSHREE UMA BHARTI

New Delhi ~ July 19, 2001

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Sushree Uma Bharti today met the three women weightlifters who won medals at the recently concluded 14th Asian Senior Women's Weightlifting Championship at Jeonju Korea. The three women weightlifters - Kunjarani Devi who won the gold medal in the 48 kg category W.

Nandini Devi who won the bronze medal in the 53 kg category and Pratima Kumari who won the silver medal in the 63 kg category in individual lift by lifting 120 kg in clean and jerk along with their coach Shri S.C. Goyal called on the Minister today. Shri S.C. Goyal also received the Best Coach for Women Award for the year 2001 by the President of the Asian Weightlifting Federation at the same championship. Sushree Uma Bharti congratulated them warmly on their success and wish them well for the forthcoming Afro-Asian Games in November 2001 and the Asian Games in 2002. It may be recalled that the Minister had personally intervened to grant permission to these weightlifters for participation in the championship.
