LOK SABHA: HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION BY SECURITY FORCES
New Delhi - December 4, 2001

486 Complaints of Human Rights Violation were received against the Armed Forces/Para Military forces from different States/Uts during 2000-2001. Giving this information in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today the Minister of State for Home Shri Ch. Vidyasagar Rao said the maximum 109 complaints were from Jammu & Kashmir followed by Delhi 84 UP 48 and Punjab 35.

He said whenever cases of human rights violation by security forces are reported to the National Human Rights Commission the Commission proceeds under Section 19 of the Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 and after getting a report from the Central Government on the alleged violation makes suitable recommendations. Government is also sensitizing the security forces on Human Rights through proper training programmes.
