VACANCIES IN HIGH COURTS



New Delhi ~ June 26 2001


There are 175 vacancies of judges of High Courts out of a total strength of 647 judges comprising all the 21 High Courts in the country. The vacancies include 49 new posts in various High Courts of the country.

The filling up of vacancies in the High Courts is a consultative process among the Constitutional authorities. While every efforts is made to fill up the existing vacancies expeditiously vacancies do keep on arising on account of retirement resignation elevation of judges or even deaths.
