ITBP HOLDS MEDICAL CAMPS IN REMOTE HIMALAYAS

Indo-Tibetan Border Police has held medical camps at its 19th Bn in Joshimath Areas and 13th Bn at Gaucher for under privileged and deprived civilian population of far-flung Border Villages of Garhwal Himalayas on 28th May to 2nd June 2001 under the guidance of Sri S.C. Chaube DG

ITBP. A volunteer organization called Annapurna Cancer Organisation headed by Prof. N.C. Mishra - Ex. Prof. And HOD Surgical Oncology at King George Medical College Lucknow took active part in detection of cancer and treating other diseases. Prof. (Mrs.) P.K. Mishra HOD Pediatrics of KGMC Lucknow had busy days at both the places in diagnosing and treating pediatric cases. This is for the first time that specialists of International repute have gone to the patients in far- flung remote villages. Due to inaccessibility of these remote villages medical facilities are almost nonexistent. It was surveyed by the ITBP Doctors that the people suffered mostly from disease like DIARRHOEA, DYSENTERY, MALNUTRITION, TUBERCULOSIS, ANAEMIA, CHEST DISEASE, GASTRIC ULCERS AND GYNAECOLOGICAL CASES LIKE CERVICITIS VAGINITIS AND CANCER CERVIX. These are mainly due to unhygienic living conditions lack of nutrition habit of alcohol and tobacco. About 1250 patients were seen by these team of Doctors comprising of ITBP Doctors headed by Dr. R.N. Samantray Director (Medical) and those of Annapurna Cancer Org. headed by Prof. Mishra medicines were issued freely by both the organizations. A follow-up schedule is also arranged by the ITBP. The camp distributed Pamphlets and Leaflets to the public for awareness against the communicable diseases AIDS, Tuberculosis etc.

The People near the border areas feel safe not only from external aggression but also from diseases due to the zealous humanitarian services of the ITBP. ITBP had conducted 34 such camps last year. This gesture goes a long way in achieving the national target of Health for all. The Directorate General ITBP now have decided to organize more of such camps in Border areas of Kumaon Hills Himachal Pradesh Ladakh and Kashmir Valley in the second half of current year.
