SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION MUST FOR WORLD PEACE : DR. JOSHI

New Delhi ~ June 08 2001

The Minister for Human Resource Development Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi has called for efforts at the global level to bring about sustainable consumption so as to pave the way for world peace. He said the 20 per cent rich of the world cannot be allowed for ever to enjoy the 80 per cent of world resources as the majority poor continued to suffer from poverty and shortage. Dr. Joshi was presiding over a function organised jointly by the UNESCO and the Ministry of Human Resource Development to mark the International Decade (2001-2010) for Culture of Peace declared by the World Body. He also emphasised the need for ushering in a non-violent and non-exploitative society.

The special lecture for the occasion was delivered by Shri Vidyanandji Muniraj who said that peace one should find within one's soul and this alone can bring about world peace. He pointed out that from time immemorial India's eternal message to the world has been universal peace and brotherhood. India continues to abide by the same tradition he said.
