Hyderabad... 28 September 2007: Indians are more aware about international trends in furniture and décor than ever before. With their global exposure, they are now looking forward to designing their spaces innovatively and creatively. The size of Imported Furniture market in India was USD 152.43 Million in the year 2005-2006 and USD 53.82 Million for 2006-2007 April-July quarter.

With the scenario for the furniture industry looking so promising, Index International Furniture Fair 2007 has picked the perfect timing for the fair. This is slated to be India's largest event on furniture, lighting, furniture hardware and interior accessories and is scheduled from the 18 th to the 22nd of October 2007 at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Goregaon, Mumbai. This annual event is being held in association with KoelnMesse GmbH, one of the world's largest trade fair organizers.

The fair will be spread over a whopping 35,000 square meters and will have over 200 participants from across the globe. This is a must-visit for every architect, interior designer, project consultant, contractor and anyone who seeks a beautiful home.

One of the fastest growing economies (at 8.5 % ) and, with the h ighest level of investor optimism, India is also...the second largest FDI destination, overtaking the USA, 4th largest in purchasing power parity (PPP) and, offering higher rate of returns and profitability than anywhere else in the world.

The Construction industry, ranked 12th in the world, is experiencing maximum growth and in turn, has created an explosive demand for furniture & allied products.

The size of the Indian furniture industry is estimated to be approx Rs. 8 billion and growing at over 20 % per annum. Furniture imports have touched an all time high though, it must be said that MANUFACTURING WILL BE THE KEY!

Italian furniture is renowned for its fine design, quality and creativity making them designer icons. The fair includes over 50 brands from Italy showcasing the best in furniture, lighting and furnishing. Besides these, many international brands from Germany, Brazil, China, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, Europe, South East Asia will participate. Indian products will also have a strong representation at the fair.

Some of the world famous names who will be participating include Paola Lenti which specializes in contemporary seating furniture and rugs for indoor and outdoor usage, Effebiquattro - Italy's largest manufacturer of doors, Nord Light which constructs innovative technical lighting systems with LED, RGB systems and traditional light source, Segis whose upholstery range is designed by famous names like Archirivolto, Bartoli Design , Isao Hosoe, Lucci & Orlandini, Roberto Romanello, Ettore Sottsass, George Sowden, Matteo Thun and others.

This furniture fair is expected to be a point of convergence for the trade and industry segment such as trade buyers, importers & exporters, wholesale distributors, retail chains, manufacturers and other related industry participants says Mr L. The major target audience for the fair like architects, builders and interior designers, purchase departments of the top Corporates, Hotels, other Hospitality projects and State and Central Government purchase departments will receive special invitations.

The Official publication for the fair is IFJ -The Indian Review of World Furniture & Design, the country's premier trade publication for the industry. A seminar on Hospitality and Retail Spaces with a panel consisting of the brightest minds of the industry is scheduled with the fair. Also, to be held concurrently will be the prestigious Mostra Design Exhibition, an expression of pure design, organized by the Government of Italy in association with Chamber of Commerce of CII

Mr Khan also said that the universal expositions is planning to enter southern market at the earliest. Chennai or Bangalore to be conducted in alternate years by 2008. This expo will also have symposium where leading designers from Italy will be visiting India to exchange ideas with leading Indian designers.

This expo will attract a crowd of 30 - 40,000 visitors with an approx of Rs 50-60 Crore business to be generated.
