Microsoft Announces 2007 Office Release in Hindi

Microsoft Corporation India today announced the availability of the fully localized Hindi version of 2007 Microsoft® Office. Currently, the Hindi edition will be available with Microsoft Office Professional 2007 and Microsoft Office Standard 2007 versions. The launch is an outcome of the commitment Microsoft made under Project Bhasha, a program it launched in September 2003 to promote local language computing in India. Microsoft will also be launching Language Interface Packs (LIPs) for 2007 Microsoft Office in thirteen Indian languages including Marathi, Gujarati, Tamil, Punjabi, Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, Nepali, Konkani, Telugu, Urdu, Assamese and Oriya before the end of 2007.

2007 Microsoft Office release is the most significant advancement in Office from Microsoft in more than a decade. With a new streamlined Fluent user interface that exposes commonly used and familiar commands, enhanced graphics and formatting capabilities, new communications and information management tools and more reliability and security, the 2007 Microsoft Office system makes it easier and more enjoyable for people to get things done at home and office. Microsoft Office Professional 2007 brings small businesses a complete set of productivity tools that will help employees save time, stay organized and work more effectively with information. Microsoft Office Standard 2007 is the essential software suite for homes and small businesses that will enable them to quickly and easily create great-looking documents, spreadsheets, and presentations, and manage e-mails.

Commenting on the roll out of Hindi version of 2007 Microsoft Office, Pankaj Ukey, Office System - Product Lead, Microsoft Corporation India, said "The need for local language software is crucial to deliver the benefits of IT at the grassroot level in a multilingual country like India. Project Bhasha launched in September 2003 in India is a key milestone in Microsoft's drive to bring IT to the masses. This is a comprehensive program focused on localizing (provide local interfaces) Windows and Office in 14 Indian languages. Under the program, Microsoft is committed to focus its efforts along four key areas primarily; Product Localization, Government Collaboration, Academia/Developer Integration and building a Local Language IT ecosystem through Community / Industry Participation. The key program deliverables include:

-- Microsoft Windows and Office interfaces will be made available in 14 Indian languages including Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Gurumukhi, Hindi, Kannada, Konkani, Malayalam, Marathi, Oriya, Nepali, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu

-- Microsoft will collaborate with Governments (Centre and states) for joint development and deployment of localized interface for Windows & Office

-- To spur research & development in the area of local language computing, Microsoft will set up Centers of Excellence for local language computing across the country

-- Microsoft will build an online Community Portal for information dissemination, tools information and localization application development support
