Max Healthcare and SonoSite, Inc. organizes the International Symposium on Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks and Vascular Access

New Delhi, Delhi, India

Max Healthcare, a leading name in healthcare services and SonoSite, Inc., the world leader in Hand-carried Ultrasound Systems (HCU), are jointly organizing the International Symposium on Ultrasound Guided Nerve Blocks and vascular access at the Max Healthcare Institute Ltd. This one day symposium which starts today will be followed by the hands-on training for ultrasound guided nerve blocks and a workshop on ultrasound guided vascular access.

This initiative has been undertaken jointly by Max and SonoSite to update physicians on some of the most significant advances in the imaging field and to help them reach a new interactive approach to the imaging techniques in anesthesia. SonoSite has invited Dr. Manoj Kumar Karmakar, Associate Professor and Head of Pediatric Anesthesia at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and three other international faculties for the symposium.

The use of ultrasound for interventional pain management is an emerging and important field in anesthesiology and SonoSite's aim is to present the latest innovations in ultrasound imaging and ultrasound guided nerve blocks to the Indian healthcare market, where this concept is still in the early stages. This symposium will provide ample opportunities for exchange of ideas and group discussions, so that the participating doctors can take home valuable knowledge and apply these imaging techniques in their practice.

"In my long career I am known as one who is supportive of regional anesthesia. With years behind me and thousands of blocks as experience there have always been occasions when one has felt that something more was required to make it a perfect block, what would have produced more elegance, safety and satisfaction in my patients. I think now we have that tool with us, and it is for the newer generation of Anesthesiologists to accept, adapt and get trained on the new tool SonoSite has provided us with to use it for the benefit of our patients. There is enough fun in it after the learning curve is through and it eventually will boost your confidence in nerve blocks. I wish to compare it with a navigator in a car especially when you are in an unfamiliar zone. Very useful when you do not know where you are. Treat it as a friend whose reputation is good, need is there and deeds need your own certifications," said Dr. P.N. Kakar, Director - Anesthesia and Pain Management, Max Healthcare.

"These knowledge seminars reflect SonoSite's strong commitment to teaching and imparting extensive hands-on experience to doctors and clinicians. As the interests are rising in this subject worldwide, we have decided to hold workshops on ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia across the country. In the seminars, we will discuss ultrasound imaging, nerve block techniques and the correlation between nerve imaging and neuro-stimulation. Our renowned speakers will also impart knowledge to the participants on the changing practice of anesthesia which helps provide an alternative to general anesthesia and is an effective way to provide pre-operative pain management, resulting in efficient care to promote decreased length of hospital stay," said Mr. Pavan Behl, India Country Manager, SonoSite, Inc.

Headquartered in the USA, Sonosite, Inc. has pioneered the innovation and market development for hand-carried ultrasound imaging in the world.

The SonoSite product range includes MicroMaxx®, TITAN®, 180PLUS™, and iLook® systems. The Company launched its first hand-carried ultrasound system in 1999 and since then, radiologists and clinicians across various medical specialties all over the world have been using them. SonoSite's products are designed for imaging in traditional applications, such as radiology, cardiology, vascular medicine and obstetrics and gynecology, as well as in applications where ultrasound has not typically been used such as emergency medicine, surgery, critical care, internal medicine and anesthetic procedures. SonoSite ultrasound systems are increasingly being used for procedures where physicians need cost-effective, non-radiating imaging in such diverse applications such as real-time trauma assessment in emergency situations, guiding interventional procedures such as biopsies, nerve blocks and surgery, and in the imaging lab for full diagnostic examinations.

"SonoSite's products are uniquely suited to address medical specialties across the diverse Indian health care environment. They are designed to boot up in seconds from a cold start, are durable enough to withstand being dropped, are easy to use and can operate on battery power if needed. These systems represent a revolutionary combination of cost, performance and size and will bring the benefits of ultrasound to more doctors and patients in India," added Behl.

SonoSite has brought a transformational change in clinical practice by bringing ultrasound to the point-of-care at the patient's bedside or physician's examination table. The systems' mobility eliminates delays, which are associated with the outpatient referral process or moving heavy, cart-based systems across hospital departments to scan patients. This can lead to increased accessibility, improvement of patient care and safety and has the potential to reduce healthcare costs through earlier and more rapid diagnosis of diseases and conditions.

The SonoSite India Liaison Office is located at Vatika Business Centre, First India Place, 2nd Floor Block-B, Sushant Lok-1, M.G Road, Gurgaon 122002. Tel 0124 -4028888; Fax 0124 4028800.
