Max Healthcare Hospitals Become the First in North India to Receive Prestigious NABH Accreditation

New Delhi, Delhi, India

Two tertiary care hospitals of Max Healthcare, the leading hospital chain with seven hospitals in National Capital Region (NCR), have received prestigious NABH accreditation today.

The recently established National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Organizations (NABH) has released the first set of standards. These cover all functional areas of the hospitals and validate the quality of care through compliance assessments against 500 criteria, critical to the efficient functioning of a healthcare setting. There is a strong emphasis on patient rights & benefits, safety, control & prevention of infections in hospitals, practicing good patient care protocols and better clinical outcome. The standards are adaptable to a wide spectrum of healthcare services; are in sync with local culture and systems, yet at the same time, are benchmarked with the best International standards.

In a NABH accredited hospital, there is a strong focus on the following:

-- Patient rights & benefits
-- Patient safety
-- Control & prevention of infections in hospitals
-- Practicing good patient care protocols e.g. special care for vulnerable groups, critically ill patients
-- Better and controlled clinical outcome

Said Mr. Analjit Singh, Chairman, Max Group, "India has been recognised globally as a healthcare destination for high quality and cost effective medical care. Having a National accreditation system like NABH will further strengthen the credibility of Indian healthcare system."

Worldwide, Accreditation Systems (e.g. Joint Commission International Accreditation Standards in US and Health Quality Service Accreditation Programme in UK) strengthen patient and community confidence in the quality and safety of care, treatment and services. The same impact will be seen in India in near future. The stringent and high expectations of NABH standards ensure achieving this accreditation will make a strong statement about a hospital's efforts to provide the highest quality services." Mr. Analjit Singh added.

Located at Saket in South Delhi, Max Devki Devi Heart & Vascular Institute and Max Super Speciality Hospital are the leading tertiary care hospitals of the city. While the former has already established itself as the premier heart institute of the country, the latter was commissioned in June 2006 and in just seven months of its operations, has benefited patients from India and abroad through the high end services in Orthopaedics, Neurosciences, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology and several other specialities. The hospitals have received the prestigious accreditation under the able leadership of Dr. Sunil Khatti, Director-Operations, Max Heart & Vascular Institute and Dr. Vijay Agarwal, Director-Administration, Max Super Speciality Hospital.

Dr. Narottam Puri, Executive Director, Max Healthcare said, " While gearing up our hospitals operations for this accreditation, strong emphasis was laid on identifying and strengthening policies, procedures and protocols, practice of evidence based medicine, reviewing performance through patient satisfaction surveys, monitoring key indicators of performance in clinical and service areas, conducting audits; and training the staff. The journey involved clinicians, nursing, management and other staff working together with a passion and zeal for excellence and putting in extra work hours for ensuring the hospitals readiness. Going through the NABH has been a truly worthwhile experience and we look forward to carrying forward our never ending pursuit of excellence."
