International Trade Boost Telecommunications Services Markets in Mexico

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Telecommunications in Mexico play a significant role in integrating businesses, residences, and people across the country, especially since expanding international commerce is increasing economic dependence on telecommunications services. Broadband and Internet access services and mobile telephony services have particularly spurred growth of the telecommunications services in Mexico.

New analysis from Frost & Sullivan (www.communicationsservices.frost.com), Mexican Telecommunications Services Markets, reveals that the market earned revenues of $24.4 billion in 2006 and is likely to reach $30.6 billion in 2011.

If you are interested in a virtual brochure, which provides manufacturers, end users and other industry participants with an overview of the Mexican telecommunications services markets, send an e-mail to Ravinder Kaur, Corporate Communications, at ravinder.kaur@frost.com with your full name, company name, title, telephone number, fax number, e-mail address, city and country. Upon receipt of the above information, an overview will be sent to you by e-mail.

"The Broadband and Internet access services market has experienced an outstanding growth and can continue to grow faster than the overall economy, as the penetration in lower classes, users and small and medium enterprise (SME) segments increases due to more affordable prices policies of the operators", explains Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Victor Hugo Casiano. "Moreover, the growing awareness of the Internet among the population plus the proliferation of e-commerce are likely to boost the number of subscribers leading to substantial revenues."

The business segment is likely to grow at a faster pace in comparison to the residential segment, creating a growing target market for broadband services, due to the high penetration rate within this segment. On the other hand, the residential segment is expected to remain the major contributor of revenues for Broadband and Internet access service market.

The growing trend in the Mexican telecommunications market is that cable operators are offering triple play services while telephony operators are getting interested in offering video services.

"Key participants' market presence curbs competition in markets such as local voice, data communications and mobile telephony", notes Casiano. "Apart from them, very few companies have the financial strength to deploy large networks, make upgrades to them and research new technologies, limiting their competitiveness".

However, regulation is also beginning to favour several other companies in addition to the key participants. This can lead to more competition and better and more affordable solutions for end users.

In most telecommunications services, higher-end user segments and MNCs segments, which are the most profitable segments, are on the brink of saturation. Hence, market participants are seeking to target the lower-end users and SME segments, which can also benefit from the decreasing service prices trends. Moreover, operators with a strong financial position can benefit from the saturation in higher-end user segments by developing an attractive offering oriented to small and medium business, thus increasing their customer base.

However, efforts to bring in new clients and gain market share have resulted in reduced margins for operators in some cases, diminishing their investment capability.

With the upcoming convergence agreement for local telephony, television and audio services authorizing telcos and cable TV providers to offer triple play services, smaller operators have better and increased chances of competing with the major companies.
