Canada throws open its gates to skilled immigrant workers

Hyderabad, April 16: The year 2007 is going to be a great year for skilled workers in India and several countries of Asia- Pacific as Canadian immigration authorities have thrown their doors open to over a lakh skilled workers who are likely to be find their advantageous place into worlds leading economy's work force. With work permits or visas for skilled workers ready on platter, Indian workers are ready to grab this unprecedented offer as World Wide Immigration and Consultancy Services, WWICS, a premier immigration and resettlement solution provider has received over 1000 applications for processing. Revelation to this effect was made here in city on Sunday by Lt Col (Retd) B S Sandhu, CMD of WWICS while addressing media gathering.

Lt Col Sandhu said that this year is going to be a red letter day for many a skilled worker in India as work force in form of truck drivers, construction workers, hospitality workers, carpenters, mechanical trade workers, general laborers are going to be getting more visas in a remarkably short span of processing time ranging from few days to a month.

Experts in the immigration industry believe that India which has emerged as the largest work force providing nation to Canada by superseding China in the year 2006 and is likely to see its share grow further in 2007. Lt Col Sandhu strongly asserted that since November 2006 the norms for issuing visas to skilled workers have been relaxed and the processing has been expedited by the Canadian immigration authorities. The hassle for skilled workers has diminished virtually and skilled workers will be seeing more and more of visas being issued at a remarkable pace.

However, says Lt Col Sandhu, the year 2007 is going to be doubly great as this year alone one lakh skilled worker visas to be issued will give the workers a right to work for around 40 hours a week. The work permits may last up to 2 years which will further strengthen chances of not only extension but also bolster the possibility of workers to achieve permanent residency status.

One third of roughly one lakh visas are going to be issued in a month's time keeping in mind the urgency of the need for Canadian work market.

Experts put the swiftly growing immigration population at over 1.2 million out of a total Canadian population of 31.3 million. With around 2.5 lakh immigrants coming to Canada every year and India contributing over 25%-30% (ahead of China) of this, Canada is likely to see Indian might increasing phenomenally over the next few years. Driven by an ever increasing reliance upon immigration and work force from abroad Citizenship and Immigration Canada( CIC) has raised the target for new permanent residents to be inducted in Canada by 15,000. All these symptoms are a good omen for Indian workers who are not only in demand but will find their way into Canadian greener pastures much more quickly than before.
