Frost & Sullivan Announces its Second Annual Healthcare Event "Global PharmaBioAlliance 2006: Emerging Growth Strategies"

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

After a highly successful and internationally acclaimed event last year, Frost & Sullivan is organizing the next edition of the Global PharmaBioAlliance 2006 - Emerging Growth Strategies on November 6 - 7, 2006 at the Leela Kempinski Kovalam Beach, Kerala. Last year the conference successfully brought together the biggest and brightest minds in the pharmaceutical space by providing a platform for networking and initiation of business partnerships as well as an arena for knowledge exchange in the areas of R&D, emerging technologies in drug manufacturing, custom synthesis, clinical research, marketing and distribution and global leadership.

2005 was a watershed year for the Pharmaceutical and Biotechnology industry worldwide. The industry has been teaming with alliances, collaborations and acquisitions galore! In a single calendar year nearly 1000 pharmaceutical companies announced deals across the world spanning collaborations, licensing, co-marketing agreements etc. Of these over 200 were acquisitions alone making these growth strategies the most talked about and also the most tested.

"While outsourcing has driven the industry in its goal to achieve faster productivity and better profitability in the recent past, increasingly acquisitions, strategic alliances, and licensing deals seem to be the flavor of the year and may emerge stronger in the near future," says Jayashri Kulkarni, Director, Healthcare Practice, Frost & Sullivan India.

This trend is also being mirrored in India given the level of activity seen in the alliances and M&A space in the country. In 2005-2006 the deal values made by the Indian pharmaceutical companies were higher than the previous year, for example, Ranbaxy's bid for Terapia was 4 times its sales value at $324 million, and Dr. Reddy's Labs acquired Betapharm at $570 million, which was 3.4 times its revenue.

What's also interesting is that the industry has been increasingly looking at academia, which has inked nearly 300 collaborations / licensing agreements last year. The first five months of 2006 have already clocked over 194 industry-academia alliances, substantiating their contribution to the growth of industry pipeline and the race to introduce newer products to the market.

To explore this phenomenon and help identify emerging opportunities therein for the industry players and academia, Frost & Sullivan has pioneered an annual event for the pharmaceutical and biotech industry.

Into its second year, the Global PharmaBioAlliance 2006 - Emerging Growth Strategies aims to provide a global platform to showcase, learn and evaluate current deal trends & opportunities in alliances, collaborations and acquisitions. A combination of presentations, workshops and case studies will ensure that participants derive actionable learning to grow their businesses through the alliance / M&A strategy. The event will also facilitate focused interactions with specific audience groups from the industry, academia, and funding institutions for initiating potential business opportunities.

We would be glad to host you at this summit and what better place than the Venice of the East - Kerala, with its scenic and serene atmosphere - an ideal location for networking in a relaxed setting. For more information log on to www.frost.com/pharma
