IWC Auction Raises Rs 58 Lakhs for Children's Charity

Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

Luxury Swiss watch manufacturer - International Watch Company (IWC) raised RS 58 Lakhs by auctioning an exclusive watch at a special auction conducted for Petits Princes - a French charitable organization that has provided services to hundreds of seriously ill children since it was set up in 1987.

Petits Princes has been supporting severely ill children by enabling them to realize their dearest dreams, thereby bringing a little joy into their lives.

Fourteen-year old Alexandre, for whom happiness meant, being able to follow his passion for watchmaking to the very end, designed the watch that was auctioned off to raise funds for Petits Princes. He was suffering from a terminal illness. IWC gave Alexandre a free rein to his imagination so that he could create an exceptional and unique watch.

The watch has a vivid red dial with three hands and a date indicator housed in a fine stainless steel case. The black alligator leather strap has red topstitching with a steel buckle and tongue. The finishing touch is signed by Alexandre's own hand and two cartouches that carry his initials are integrated on the face of the watch. A generous anonymous bidder bagged the watch for Rs 58 Lakhs (Euro 100,000).

"Serving the community is a rich tradition within IWC and we support several charitable initiatives, one of which is Petits Princes, that fulfils the dreams of hundreds of seriously ill children," said IWC Brand Manager, Gianfranco D'Attis.

He noted that IWC has donated money, time, effort, and services to Petits Princes as part of its continuing commitment to supporting charitable institutions. IWC watches are sold at select boutiques in India in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai.

IWC provided the means to create a totally original watch specially for Alexandre, produced in two exclusive similar copies, based on the boy's own designs, in collaboration with him.

Leading impulses for the mechanical watch come from IWC. With its 390 employees, the company manufactures these sought-after pieces. Since the year 2000 IWC has belonged to the watch division of Richemont SA.
