The first edition of CPhI India 2006 let the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry's presence be felt strongly at an International level which ended successfully today. CPhI India (Convention for Pharmaceutical Ingredient) in conjunction with Pharmaceutical Expo 2006 India's foremost machinery & technology exhibition achieved a high participation in terms of exhibitors as well as enormous flows of visitors. The events jointly provided a unique platform bringing together the leading stakeholders - pharmaceutical manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical ingredients, manufacturing equipment and related services - from both the Indian and the global pharmaceutical industry. The event, CPhI India 2006, witnessed the global prominence of Indian Industry and shall take place annually.

CPhI India 2006 was organized by CMP India - a new 100% subsidiary of the London-based United Business Media plc (UBM). CMP India also was the organize for this year's Pharmaceutical Expo. CMP has already confirmed that the second CPhI India will again be hosted at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, 26-28 November 2007. Next years show will be a triple event, with the introduction of the contract services event ICSE India and the Pharmaceutical Manufacturing and Equipment Convention P-MEC India.

Says Mr. M. Gandhi, Managing Director of CMP India, UBM India Pvt. Ltd: "The co-locating of CPhI, IPC and the Pharma Expo has complemented to the success of the event helping the Indian Industry and Pharma community to have a single platform look forward to their various requirements and knowledge base. The show is known to have created many business opportunities for the Indian as well as foreign participants at the show. Especially the manufacturer and the distributors of Indian APIs and excipients which are attracting good business enquiries from the buyer-visitors".

CPhI India 2006 had the largest visitor attendance of any CPhI event in the world. A total of 325 companies including 140 international companies from 18 countries exhibited at CPhI India. A further 275 companies participated in Pharmaceutical Expo. The visitor registration overshot the three day expectation of 22, 000 on the second day itself. The final figure for the total number of visitors attending was 31, 239.

44% of the total participation in CPhI India 2006 was accounted for by International exhibitors (56% Domestic Exhibitors) which was more than the double the participation of International exhibitors obtained by either CPhI China 2006 & CPhI Japan 2006. Proving international importance of Indian Pharmaceutical Industry, Kate Chambers-Group Exhibition Director, Chemical & Pharma Ingredients Group adds, "Indian Pharmaceutical Industry has shown tremendous growth over the past few years. By passing International Intellectual Protection Legislation this year, India has become an ideal destination for R&D outsourcing for the international pharmaceutical industry. The availability of soft skills and knowledge base in India is increasingly attracting the international pharmaceutical industry to shift their research and development base to India".
