Doyens Talk of Global English in the Business World at RBS Seminar

New Delhi, Delhi, India

An often repeated phrase now-a-days is "" The world is becoming a global village"". This has been made possible by the fast paced and free exchange of information, which in its turn has been enabled by the use of English by much of the global business world.

Rai Business School-Meadows, Faridabad, organized a talk on ""Global English in the Business World"" to deliberate on this. At the event, eminent personalities such as Ms Robin Diallo - the First Secretary, Cultural Affairs at Embassy of USA, and a highly acclaimed educator; Dr Parag Diwan - VC, University of Petroleum and Energy Studies; and Col V.K. Gaur- Principal Director, FIT, Manav Rachna Educational Institution, gave insights into how English as a communication tool has revolutionized the global business world, and will continue to do so.

Ms Robin Diallo said that one of the prominent skill a person needs to succeed professionally in today's business oriented world is effective ""business writing and communication skills"". Ms Robin Diallo was of the opinion that the fears of some quarters that the indigenous cultures and languages will be adversely affected by English are unfounded, as it is only practical to use this language, since it is widely understood throughout the world.

Col V.K. Gaur said the basic aim of any language, as with English is - to inform, to persuade, and to promote goodwill. This is done by ensuring the 7 Cs of Courtesy, Clarity, Conciseness, concreteness, correctness, consideration, and completeness.

Dr Parag Diwan, threw light on how English becomes repositioned as a 'basic skill', to be learned by primary school children alongside other 21st century skills in Information Technology and facilitates international exchange and promotes understanding. This is in line with the strong belief of Rai Business School, that the proficiency in ""life skills"" is the top job fetching skill. Several surveys of CEOs and HR managers also emphasise the importance of Life Skills as the top most parameter for employability, as highlighted by Major General S. Ghosh.- Regional Director-Rai Business School-Meadows.
