Survey and exploration of minerals
New Delhi: September 1, 2004

The Mineral Exploration Corporation Limited (MECL), a public sector unit of the Department of Mines carried out 13,535 meters of drilling and 500 meters of mining during July, 2004. During the first four months of this financial year it carried out 52,624 meters of drilling and 1,987 meters of mining.

Geological Survey of India (GSI), a subordinate office of the Department, during June, 2004 took up 81 sq. kms. of large scale mapping, 2.1 sq. kms. of detailed mapping and 6804.8 meters of drilling. The organisation carried out 239.5 sq. kms. of specialized thematic mapping during the month.
