New Delhi: September 1, 2004

The President, Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam participated in the 400th Prakash Utsav at Gurudwara Rakab Ganj on the occasion of the installation of the Guru Granth Sahib.

Participating in the celebrations, the President said “I am happy to participate in the Prakash Utsav today in this historic Gurudwara of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji”.

The President also recalled the contribution of the 5th Sikh Guru, Guru Arjan Dev for setting up the Harimandir Sahib and how he evolved the Guru Granth Sahib, a sacred spiritual document containing the sayings and hymns of Sikh Gurus and Sufis Saints of all religions. The President said it is a great work, which is an embodiment of national integration. The President recalled his visit to Harimandir Sahib yesterday and said that while on the way to Harimandir Sahib, he composed a poem aboard the aircraft on the importance of the Guru Granth Sahib and the contribution of the Gurus. The poem “ Guru Prakasham” was recited by the President and its Punjabi translation was also read out.
