Shri Arjun Singh briefed on HRD Activities & Issues - Smt. Kanti Singh and Shri Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi, Moss, also assume charge
New Delhi: May 24, 2004

Shri Arjun Singh has taken over the charge of Minister for Human Resource Development here today.

The Minister discussed various issues with secretaries and other senior officers of the Ministry. Education Secretary, Shri S.C. Tripathi briefed the Minister on the ongoing programmes of the Ministry and issues relating to the education sector. Secretary (Elementary Education), Smt. Kumud Bansal informed about the main activities relating to universalisation of elementary education and related issues. Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan and the Literacy Mission came up for detailed discussion. Secretary (WCD), Smt. Kasturi Gupta Menon outlined the main issues and programmes pertaining to Women & Child Department.

Later in the day, Smt. Kanti Singh and Shri Md. Ali Ashraf Fatmi also assumed offices as Ministers of State in the Human Resource Development Ministry.
