Letter to Editor - India Shining
New Delhi: March 20, 2004

‘India shining’ is definitely a ‘feel-good’ expression designed by BJP on the lines of ‘Mera Bharat Mahaan’ earlier designed by Congress in regime of Rajiv Gandhi. But all these expressions were framed by political rulers to win the elections. If idea of ‘none-to-vote’ floated by Election Commission may be put into implementation, perhaps many constituencies may fail to send representatives in initial phase of elections. I recall a BBC debate on TV just after tehelka episode, when Pramod Mahajan and Kapil Sibbal were honest to confess unanimously that under present system, Indian voters had no option other than to chose better out of worse candidates put before them!

‘India Shining’ campaign launched on poll-eve on government-expense has proved to be misuse of power with the same theme now continued in Advani’s Rath Yatra. India can really shine for turning Mera Bharat Mahaan if only sensible persons with upto two children may have voting rights to decide talented persons to rule the country instead of present breed of selfish and dishonest politicians with all types of human-evils!
