Compensation to robbed passengers
New Delhi: July 15, 2004

In Civil Appeal No. 2252 of 1999, the Supreme Court has held the Railways liable for compensation for deficiency in service and consequently for robbery of the unbooked belongings of the appellant. Ministry of Railways has proposed to file review petition in the Supreme Court against this judgement.

Approximately 59 robberies have been reported after the judgement of the Supreme Court. No compensation claim has been paid by the Railways for robbery of belongings of the passengers after the Supreme Court’s judgement, as it is proposed to be contested..

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways Shri R. Velu in a written reply to a question from Shri Rayapati Sambasiva Rao in the Lok Sabha today.
