Blocks awarded in NELP
New Delhi: July 15, 2004

The Government has awarded 71 blocks for exploration of oil and gas in the first three rounds of New Exploration Licensing Policy (NELP) i.e. NELP-I, II, & III. Out of the above, Production Sharing Contracts (PSCs) for 70 blocks have been signed. The investments made in these blocks till the 31st March, 2004, amount to US $ 805.08 million.

A further 21 exploration blocks were awarded under the fourth round of NELP (NELP-IV). The PSCs in respect of 20 blocks were signed on the 6th February, 2004 only.

The production of Gas has started in NELP-II block namely; CB-ONN-2000/2 situated in the State of Gujarat awarded to Niko Resources Ltd. The exploration of oil and gas in the remaining blocks is being carried out as per the provisions of the respective PSCs.

Above information was given by Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar, Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj in the Lok Sabha in a written reply today.
