Society has a greater role in preserving Cultural Heritage – Jaipal Reddy
New Delhi: July 14, 2004

The Information & Broadcasting, Sh. S. Jaipal Reddy said that the society has a greater role to play than polity in preserving our cultural heritage. Inaugurating a National Consultation on Media, Women and the Laws which was organized jointly by the Central Board for Film Certification (CBFC) and National Commission for Women here today, Shri Reddy described a woman as cradle of civilization and symbol of motherhood. The Minister emphasized that there is enough legal scope for liberty but the individual should exercise voluntary choice in accessing the media.

Shri Anumpan Kher, Chairman, CBFC, speaking on the occasion highlighted that the role of CBFC is oriented towards granting certification to various films. He outlined that people from various walks of life are associated as Board and Advisory Panel Members of various regions of CBFC so that the viewpoint of various sections of society are reflected while granting various category of certification to the films submitted to CBFC. Shri Kher informed the gathering that the CBFC has been actively advocating the regulation of television content as it enters our homes uncensored.

The others who present on the occasion were, Dr. Purnima Advani, Ms. Kaveri Bomzai, S/Shri Chandan Mitra, Rajdeep Sardesai and Tarun Tejpal.
