CIL's Non-Coking Coal Washeries
New Delhi: July 14, 2004

Rajya Sabha

Coal India Limited (CIL), a public sector unit of the Department of Coal has taken steps to set up non-coking coal washeries within the jurisdiction of its subsidiary coal companies. It has set up two new non-coking coal washeries one at CCL and the other at NCL. It has converted 5 coking coal washeries to wash non-coking coal in BCCL and CCL. The total throughput capacity of non-coking coal washeries in CIL now stands at 20.2 million tonnes per annum.

CIL also intended to set up non-coking coal washeries under Build Own Operate (BOO) Scheme for supply of washed coal to thermal power plants - two at MCL and one at SECL with the total throughput capacity of 19.2 million tonnes per year. However, these washeries could not come up due to non tie up of washed coal with any consumer.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Coal and Mines, Dr. Dasari Narayana Rao in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
