India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express Train begins its journey

The 4607/4608 India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express train was flagged off at Lahore in Pakistan at 8.00 a.m. (Indian Standard Time) today for Attari. This follows an agreement between the two nations on December 19, 2003 to restore Samjhauta Express from January 15, 2004.

The 4608 Lahore-Attari Samjhauta Express will depart from Lahore at 8.00 a.m. every Thursday and Monday from today and arrive Attari at 12.30 p.m. In return direction, 4607 Attari-Lahore Samjhauta Express will depart at 1.30 p.m. on every Thursday and Monday from today. From today, goods traffic has also commenced between the two countries.

As decided in agreement with the Pakistan Railways, 4607/4608 India-Pakistan Samjhauta Express will run with the full rake of Pakistan Railways for a period of four months and five days from January 15, 2004.

A link train to the Samjhauta Express 4001/4002, Delhi-Attari Special, which commenced its journey on January 14, 2004 at 9.00 p.m. from Delhi, will run every Wednesday and Sunday from Delhi at 9.00 p.m. and reach Attari the following morning at 4.40 a.m. In return direction, the 4002 Attari-Delhi Special will leave Attari station every Thursday and Monday at 8.05 p.m. to reach Delhi Junction the following morning at 3.35 a.m.

The Attari-Lahore Samjhauta Express consists of 10 passenger coaches and 10 goods wagons.
