President's greetings on the occasion of Makara Sankranti and Pongal

The President Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam has greeted his fellow countrymen on the occasion of the festivals of Makara Sankranti and Pongal which fall on January 15th and January 16th respectively. In his message the President has said, "Hope is high as we begin this year, a year which promises much. The nation's development and progress depend to a large extent on the hard work and creativity of our people in rural areas. The festivals of Makara Sankranti and Pongal celebrate the hard work and creativity of our farmers and the millions living in our rural communities.

On these auspicious occasions, I extend my warm greetings to my fellow citizens and wish them success, happiness and prosperity".
