Letter to Editor - Diminishing CAS standards
New Delhi: February 27, 2004

It refers to news of Union Government being ultimately forced to dismiss controversial and confusing CAS. It was Government’s over-stepping in a field where competition amongst TV channels was in itself sufficient to take care of consumers’ interests! Problem is that our government uselessly interferes in a system which may be going smoothly, but neglects areas where it should interfere! Rather Government should feel itself duty-bound to regulate TV serials which are adversely affecting public-health both physically and psychologically.

Unending and uselessly twisted stories of TV serials have made viewers TV-addicted. Telecast of new episodes of serials till late night is against the principles laid down in healthy proverb ‘Early to bed and early to rise, makes people healthy, wealthy and wise’! Late sleeping habits adversely affect day-time working efficiency of people. Union government should fix a time-limit of say 10.30 pm for telecast of new episodes of serials. There should be an upper limit say 100 for episodes of a TV serial. It smells foul of money-role in force-implementation of CAS, and in not regulating TV serials.
