Integrated Rail Bus Transit system in NCR
New Delhi: August 16, 2004

The government has planned an Integrated Rail Bus Transit (IRBT) system for the National Capital Region (NCR) at an estimated cost of Rs. 2239 crores.

In the first phase of the IRBT, 14.93 kilometre long Shahdara-Ghaziabad, 17.36 kilometres Sahibabad-Shivaji Bridge and 30.53 kilometres Trinagar-Gurgaon are to be taken up.

To execute IRBT, a Transport Cell for the NCR, under the Ministry of Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation has been created. This is because Urban Transport now forms part of the Ministry of Urban Development as this subject has since July 1986 been transferred from the Ministry of Railways and entrusted to the Urban Development Ministry through an amendment in the Government of India (Allocation of Business) Rules.
