Funds to States for developmenal projects and canals

The Ministry of Water Resources in releasing funds for the development irrigation projects including dams and canals under the Accelerated Irrigation Benefits programme (AIBP) and Command Area Development Programme (CADP).

A sum of about Rs. 9230 crore has been released under these programmes during the last three years to the State Governments and out of this, about Rs. 1081 crore was released to the State Government of Uttar Pradesh. The Central Loan Assistance under AIBP is provided on year-to-year basis in two equal instalments. The second instalment is released after obtaining the utilization certificate for the first instalment released.

The grant under CADP is provided quarterly as reimbursement. The works taken up under AIBP are construction of dams, irrigation canals including distributaries and cross drainage works. The works taken up under CADP are on farm development, improvement of drainage, construction of field channel, warabandhi and reclamation of waterlogged area. The works taken up under AIBP are scheduled to be completed in three to four years whereas completion of works taken up under CADP depends upon the annual plan allocation made by the Planning Commission and the funds provided by the State Governments.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Water Resources, Shri Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav in a written reply in the Lok Sabha today.
