Child Labour to be eliminated from hazardous occupations during 10th Plan

Under the Tenth Plan strategy, it is proposed to eliminate child labour from hazardous occupations through the focused action under the Scheme of National Child Labour Project (NCLP) & effective convergence with the Scheme of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development.

Rs. 193.71 crore were provided as central financial assistance to various states under the Scheme of National Child Labour Project including Grant-in-Aid to Voluntary Agencies during the last three years :-

Year - Amount (Rs. in crores)

2001-02 - 61.85
2002-03 - 65.10
2003-04 - 66.76
TOTAL - 193.71

The amount of financial assistance provided so far during the current financial year is Rs. 29.60 crores.

The districts for implementing the scheme of NCLP are identified by the Government of India on the basis on the Census figures and funds are allotted to these districts as per the budget fixed for various activities under the scheme.

This information was given by the Labour & Employment Minister Shri Sis Ram Ola in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
