Readers Comments: UP MLA's as hostage
May 28, 2003

It refers to stay of RLD MLAs of UP in Bhopal after former Union Minister Ajit Singh has broken ties with BJP in the Centre and in UP. Political fashion of making party MLAs hostage outside their home-states in costly five-starred hotels to save possible party-split exposes huge wealth and ‘investment’ of party-bosses to keep their political shops running for their selfish interests.

Political honesty can only be achieved by abolishing supremacy of big party bosses to treat ordinary party MLAs as bonded ones. This can be done by electing Chief Minister by absolute majority through secret vote in the House on nominations signed by at least one-third MLAs restricting ministerial strength to maximum ten-percent of total MLAs. Such an elected Chief Minister may be removed by secret vote on no-confidence motion signed by at least one-third MLAs and with compulsion of naming alternate leader in the same motion.
