Railway Track Circuiting to be completed
New Delhi: May 13, 2003

The Ministry of Railways has planned completion of all the sanctioned track circuiting works by 2006-2007.

Total locations provided with track circuit, so far, are 4118 Fouling Mark (FM) to Fouling Mark run through line, 3613 FM to Block Section Line (BSL) straight portion, 3169 Home to FM straight portion, 3009 FM to BSL turnout portion, 2885 Home to FM turnout portion, and 2675 loopline.

The work of FM to FM track circuiting is in progress at all the remaining stations upto 'E' route. Works of FM to BSL track circuiting are in progress on complete main line upto 'D' special route and on straight portion upto 'D' route.

Track circuiting is a device to prevent train from overshooting the red signal. Under this system, train stops automatically if there is a red signal. The system, thus, is intended to strengthen safety on Indian Railways.
