Decision of Rajsthan government to provide 14 percent reservation to economically weaker section of upper castes is welcome but based on vote-bank politics aimed at forthcoming Rajsthan elections. Basic policy of Reservation was incorporated in the Constitution for a limited period of 15 years. Need to extend it further was itself a proof of failure of the policy.

Need of the hour is for reservation of different kind. Reservation should be for such people and their families who might have opted to limit their family-size by having only up to two children. Step will motivate people to voluntarily adopt much-needed family-planning programme crucial for a civilized culture and national development!
