NMDC plan for Value Added Products
New Delhi: May 9, 2003

National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) and Indian Rare Earth Ltd. (IREL) plan to jointly produce value-added products. In the first phase, there is a scheme for setting up of a synthetic rutile plant based on the ilmenite produced by Indian Rare Earths Limited at its Chavara Plant. In the second phase, a mining, mineral separation and an ilmenite value addition plant based on the mining areas of Block 6 and 8 of the Neendakara-Kayamukulam belt of Killam District, is envisaged. A green-field Titanium Complex starting from mining and upto titanium sponge is proposed to be set up by joint venture.

This information was given by the Minister for Steel Shri Braja Kishore Tripathy in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
