Handing over probe of notorious Madhumita-murder in UP to the state CID by Chief Minister Mayawati is simply an eye-wash because political rulers of states do affect investigating agencies working under their governments. BJP is uselessly bearing defamation by being silent or defensive for wrong deeds of leaders belonging to its allied partner BSP.

It is regrettable that Union Home Minister is silent on criminal politics being played in UP. Deputy Prime Minister Lal Krishna Adwani should take initiative to shift probe of Madhuimita-murder to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an independent probe. Further visualizing domination of politics in states like UP or Bihar by criminals, some legislation should be enacted immediately defying all opposition like was done in passing controversial POTA bill to remove persons from criminal records from ministries.
