Readers Comments: Corruption in High Courts
May 23, 2003

It refers to justified demand of Bar Council of India for immediate transfer of High Court judges whose relatives continue to practice in same courts. But it will be better to strike at the root cause of corruption by making it compulsory to appoint all judges of High Courts outside from their home states, a move which will effectively check increasing corruption in higher courts.

Major reason of corruption in high courts is because of locally appointed judges who are easily approachable through local relations and former colleagues in bar. Since decision of having high court judges compulsory from outside their home states does not require any ammendment to the constitution, it needs to be implemented immediately without delay to effectively check increasing corruption in high courts.

Only known cases are media-highlighted, otherwise large number of individuals have to bear judicial torture with dumb mouths in absence of any accountability for judges of higher Courts when even our National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) also expresses its poor inability to help judicial victims of our admittedly corrupt judicial system. Even un-notified code of conduct is not observed by many misconducting judges.
