Readers Comments: Threat by Cable Operators
May 30, 2003

It refers to threat of cable-operators to hike cable charges if Conditional-Access-System (CAS) is not introduced as scheduled from 14.07.2003. Entry of government by itself or through its undertakings in public-utility services or industries was designed to impose healthy competition in various fields to respective private companies to save public from dictating monopoly of private firms. It is time that same policy may be adopted in field of cable-operation. Some government undertaking/s (Central or State/s) either individually or in partnership with some expert/s in private sector can be assigned cable-operation in different cities. System will provide reasonable charges for public. Further present private cable-operators will be controlled automatically to keep viewers’ interest in mind. A healthy competition with public-sector undertakings will compel private cable-operators to keep their charges minimum possible that too with better quality.
