New Delhi: May 13, 2003

The Anti Collision Device (ACD), developed successfully by Konkan Railway, will cost Rs. 190.92 crores for its full installation on Indian Railways. The estimated expenditure will also include ACD survey.

ACD is designed to prevent head-on-collision of trains and, thus, a milestone towards improving safety of train services.

Indian Railways have, so far, spent Rs. 11.26 crores on ACD surveys.

Presently, provision of ACD on about 3500 route kilometres of Northeast Frontier Railway, Southern Railway, South Central Railway and Northern Railway have been taken up. Besides, ACD survey has been sanctioned on additional 10,000 route kilometres to cover selected routes.

Under a policy decision of the Government, ACD system is to be provided on Indian Railways progressively.
