Railways spend Rs13446 crores to renew assets during last five years

New Delhi: March 24, 2003

Indian Railways has spent Rs.13,446 crores during the last five years to renew and replace its tracks, bridges, signalling system, workshops and level crossings.

The length of railway track renewed during the period comes to 15793 Km with an expenditure of Rs. 10370 crores. Rs.1663 crores has been spent to replace signalling and telecom equipment of 642 railway stations spread across the country and track circuiting of 3123 locations undertaken. The amount incurred on modernization of workshops of Indian Railways during the period comes to Rs.668 crores
