Rudy felicitates students of Footwear Design and Development Institute
New Delhi: March 21, 2003

Shri Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, felicitated the students of the Footwear Design and Development Institute (FDDI), with certificates upon completion of their graduate programme in footwear technology, here last evening. Speaking at the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the FDDI, Shri Rudy said that the future of the footwear industry in India was very bright and asked the students to excel in their chosen career. Shri Rafeeque Ahmed, Chairman, FDDI and Shri Alok Sinha, Managing Director of FDDI, were present at the occasion along with students and Faculty of the Institute.

In his address Shri Rudy said, "Institutes like FDDI have been established to provide trained manpower so as to be able to not only promote exports but also improve the large domestic market within the country and the retail outlets". He appreciated the technical capability and modern facilities existed at FDDI and hoped that this would help micro-entrepreneurs and artisans to take benefit from the latest technology in the footwear industry.

FDDI, set up in 1986, is the premier Footwear and Designing Institute in the country under the aegis of Ministry of Commerce, providing professional and specialised training in footwear designing and technology. It is the first footwear school in the world to receive ISO-9001 and ISO-1401 and ISO-17025 Certification.
