Chances of Locust build up remote
New Delhi: June 12, 2003

India continues to be free from any gregarious locust activity due to extreme hot weather conditions prevailing in the North West region. However, Intensive surveys are being undertaken to detect any locust build up in the Scheduled Desert area of Rajasthan and part of Gujarat.

According to the locust situation bulletin of the Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage of the Agriculture. At present ecological conditions are not favourable for locust breeding in the Scheduled Desert Area of the country. Hence the chances of locust build up in the near future are very remote.
