Centre to assist State Governments in payment of SAP to Sugarcane Farmers
New Delhi: July 17, 2003

The Centre has decided in principle to assist the State Governments in making payment of State Advisory Price (SAP) to sugarcane farmers as a one time measure. The assistance will be given from the Sugarcane Development Fund. The decision was taken at a meeting convened by the Prime Minister, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee here this morning. The meeting was attended by the Finance Minister, Shri Jaswant Singh and the Agriculture Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh. Further talks would be held with the concerned State Governments in the matter.

The Food Minister, Shri Sharad Yadav who could not attend the meeting, concurred with the decision.
