New Delhi: July 4, 2003

National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a public sector undertaking of the Ministry of Mines produced 72,848 tonnes of Aluminium cast metal and 369,100 tonnes of calcined alumina during the first quarter of this fiscal as against the target of 70,100 tonnes and 379,000 tonnes respectively. It produced 1,038,624 tonnes of bauxite against a target of 965,000 tonnes during the quarter. It sold 64, 344 tonnes of aluminium metal against a target of 70,300 tonnes during these 3 months. The aluminium export during the quarter was 29,586 tonnes against a target of 303,400 tonnes. It sold 208,912 tonnes of Alumina/Hydrate during April-June,2003 against a target of 233,000 tonnes.

The captive power plant of the company produced 1,235.4 million units (MU) of electricity against a target of 1,231.5 MU and sold 118.81 MUs to GRIDCO. NALCO posted a net profit of Rs. 520.90 crore during the year 2002-03 as compared to Rs. 409.35 crore for the year 2001.02.
